Her Room | the Nursery
When gathering inspiration and dreaming up what the nursery would look like, I knew exactly what I needed it to look and feel like. I needed a place where I would feel peace and grounding in the midst of caring, loving and getting to know my sweet babe. I’ve always been very sensitive to my surroundings, so the space needed to work not just for baby but for me too. I wanted it to feel warm but minimal, and be a place that I could spend countless hours a day and (even more so!) night.
Crib : I wanted something that was simple, timeless, and would eventually transition into a toddler bed if we wanted the option. I opted for the Gulliver crib from Ikea. It checked all the boxes and was incredibly affordable! Find it here.
Dresser : Along with the crib, we wanted something that would be timeless and functional. We have the larger version of this dresser in our room and have loved it! It was one of the first things I knew without searching out because I knew it was the perfect size to serve as a changing station as well, all the while offering lots of room for baby to grow into as she will need more room for clothing as she gets older. More details and purchase here.
Moon phase : custom ordered from the Qualitarian, my sweet friend Sam Gardner. I love how it adds texture to the wall without being too bold. Reach her to get yours here.
Painting : I wanted to create something really special for my girl while creating this room. Something that added a calming vibe, didn’t take away from the whimsical feeling, but added depth. (ps let me paint for you! ;) ) See more of my art here.
Hooks : I found these during a trip to Ikea. I loved the simplicity yet boho vibe of these rattan hooks.
Rug : I found this rug at Home Goods, I LOVE it and its SO soft, but incredibly absorbent. I feel like a crazy lady always “NO SHOES IN THE NURSERY” but I also have a dog with no boundaries and this rug grabs dirt out of the air, I swear! Will probably swap it out at some point.
The Rocker : My mother in law had me searching high and low for the BEST rocker of all time. She said it was one of the most important things to invest in because you spend so much time feeding, having somewhere comfortable is vital. Let me tell you— this rocker is the best! Finding one that fit me and Ryan (hello, he’s 6’3) was the challenge. I looked for months and we finally landed on this custom beauty from West Elm. I opted for the Dove Grey as it felt timeless to me. I wanted something lighter colored, but with all the fluids (lol) involved with baby, I felt this was more practical. The high back, deep seat, and head rest wings make this (I think!) the best nursery rocker/glider. Check out all the specs and fabric choices here.
Foot rest : I searched high and low for this too! A sturdy, cute, but minimal design was hard to find. I went with the Scandinavian feel with wooden accent because I felt it worked well in the space. I found this randomly at Home Goods, and I am so happy with it!
Side table : Perfect place for sound machine, lamp, lotion for the final feed before bed time, water, phone, all the essentials! From Opalhouse by Target. Love the pops of rattan as it gives a warmer feel to minimal! Globe lamp also from Target.
the Mobile : I had my eye on this sweet thing for a while and my mama recently surprised me with it! It came with pink rose around the top and once it was hanging up, I felt like it was too pinky (lol too much color, I cant handle), so I pulled them off and added some fake dusty miller to bulk up the greens! And I am obsessed! So happy with how it turned out. It’s from the Cluttered Wall (thank you for showing me @wildandproperblog!).
Lighting : I wanted to pick a fancy light fixture, but I felt a fan would be more practical over the long run! I chose this hunter fan. It’s simple, three blades (easy to clean!!), and the cloud white color practically blends in with the ceiling, so win win!
In the closet : not pictured in the closet is a simple white cubby that doubles as a book shelf with baskets for toys. Target and Ikea both have these cubby options.
I have a few baskets around the room. One for burp cloths and boogie wipes. One full of extra blankets. And one by the door for dirty laundry. Love how a basket offers good storage without plastic.
Putting together a space has always been a love of mine. I love to create a feeling through environment. And I absolutely love spending time in this room as it offers me a peaceful sanctuary to navigate mamahood. As she grows and wants to incorporate her own style, I am ready for it! A minimal feel always seems to be less chaotic and thats just what any new mama needs.
