organic haus
The style of our flat is something Ryan and I are often complimented on, so I want to give a little insight on how we make it happen. We strive to have a home that's crisp and effortless but as cozy as can be. I have always been drawn to a minimalist, or reductive style where simplicity meets practicality. Adapting this style within your home is EASY.
Right now our home is the combination of elements like chalky walls, greenery, and dark wood or white furniture. Maintaining a style like this makes it easy to throw in pops of color or switch out things for other neutral colors without making the room seem chaotic.
Here are a few of our examples:
Placing a little greenery around our apartment instantly gives an organic feel, and livens up an otherwise drab and lifeless color scheme. You can use a variety of plant types to your liking. I have opted for air plants primarily as they are easy to maintain and very appeasing to the eye; they have a very simple eclectic look. I always look for places to make and hang garlands, and you can always count on a vase of greens or florals in any of the rooms of our home.
We <3 homemade home decor. Homemade wall banners/tapestries are SO easy to make and flattering for any space. Ryan made the light fixture that hangs above our couch, and we don't have a single visitor that doesn't compliment it! We purchased the reclaimed barn wood from an antique store in our old town, and paired it with some filament bulbs. Now we have a practical wall decoration that beautifies a large awkward wall, and lights the room.
We love our home. We love that its simple and easy to maintain, but easy to change as well. Keeping everything neutral, we can transition into a new home or apartment without having to adjust our style to fit. Minimal design allows our space to be airy and bright, and a sanctuary for us and many of our friends and family.
