Mama's Night In

Every Febuary I find myself straddling the line of isolation and self care. All the cold winter hibernation gets me choosing to stay home more often than not, and I always have to proactively choose to take care in that time and not let myself numb out and not do anything good for myself. I have always found rest and recovery within my home, but with this being the first winter we have baby in the house, my home has been less about recovery, and more about making sure all the ** things** are done. Chores, dinner, laundry, baby taken cared, etc. My home used to be where I would come to be restored, and lately I have realized I’ve lost touch with that part of it.

While my baby is becoming more independent, she’s not needing to breastfeed quite as often, its easier for my husband to take on more time with her. Giving me moments to myself more often. I notice that the last couple times that he says “I’m taking her with me, have some time alone”, I get intimidated. I am working to remember how to have time alone. Where I am not working, I am just tuning back in. Just spending time replenishing.

I realize its such a blessing to have this kind of support, I am just learning how to navigate it. I realized last week I’ve been in survival mode since she got here. Just trying to stay afloat. Planning all my outings strategically to get the most things done while I could and she was away. Leaving her with my husband during nap times, coming home, pumping, orienting my self care around her schedule. Not bad, just— acclimating. And lately, I feel myself softening and not just treading water but savoring moments. Taking time again.

Last week my husband knew I needed time in my home, to clean, to rest, I was happy that I had just received a few new items from Pursoma just days before. Having successful moments to recover has so much to do with making it a priority, and having some yummy things on hand to get you into the zone to rest.

One of the progressive qualities of Pursoma is they are becoming more all encompassing as a company. Offering customers a full experience from the products they offer. I love when a company makes it easy for me to get everything I need in the moments I am taking for myself. Its like a one stop shop.

For my night in I used :

Pursoma’s Dry Brush

Apres Savasana Soak

Puresoliel Therapeutic Body Oil

Sweet Sleep Tea

the Brush

I absolutely love Pursomas Dry brush. Its my all time favorite I’ve had because its rough enough to feel a difference but gentle enough to use daily. Its made out of ethically sourced jute fiber. Its so good for removing dead skin cells as well as increasing lymphatic drainage.

the Soak

I love Pursomas soaks because they themselves are a ritual. Pursoma recommends making the bath water hot, grabbing a cool glass of water, turning your phone on airplane mode, dry brushing away the dead, and soaking for 15-30 minutes. I like to palo my bathroom, dim the lights, have candles creating a warm space, and finding stillness through closing my eyes and breath. I also love to put a mask on (find a few of my favorites here). I usually set a timer on my phone so that I won’t feel the need to check the time. Once finished soaking, DO NOT RINSE! The active ingredients in the mix have properties that can be working through the skin for up to 12 hours.

Once finishing soaking, pat dry, slip into cozy robe, and climb into bed. I like to get my legs up the wall. Love to bring my gua sha along too. Here you land, you sweat, you rest. This can be harder than sitting in the hot bath water. You feel a rush through your body as its detoxing.

the Oil

What an awesome new addition to the pursoma line up— their new body oil. As a movement teacher, I am constantly searching for new ways to repair and take care of aches and pains within the body. After 3 days of back labor, and now 7+ months of breastfeeding, my back is stillll recovering.

“We formulated this body oil with the goal of giving you the benefits of the sun, including on the days when it’s not shining. Calendula oil from Marigold flowers grown in our founders own backyard, act as the perfect antidote for tired and sore muscles.

Our special aromatherapy blend of Lavender and Blood orange, calm the senses and boost mood.”

the Sweet Sleep Tea

I absolutely love how Pursoma has recently sourced and created their new detox tea line. It goes perfectly with their branding of creating a ritual practice. Like I mentioned, it adds a new dimension to their products that makes them even more all encompassing. Creating a well rounded experience. When we have the tools we need, we have no excuse to make our self-care time a priority.

I was slightly hesitant when I saw there was banana in this blend because I had never had that before. The banana is almost like an essence instead of a flavor and its delicious.

“Arogya tea masters created a calming and nourishing tea to complement your Pursoma wellness ritual. This blend combines herbs, florals and fruits that will warm the body and relax the mind. Sweet Sleep is antioxidant rich and will aid digestion and relaxation.”

+REST

I love that the final step of Pursomas soaks is to sweat and rest. I love that it parallels cleansing, we soak and draw things out, and then we sit and we sift, we feel, we see what can stay, what can go, and when we rise again, we are better. more whole. more in-tune. This is what the sweat and rest symbolizes for me.

It’s all about creating time and space for me to pause and see myself in the midst of the crazy demands of motherhood. I’ve always felt more restored through alone time in my home. My sanctuary. Pursoma makes it easy.
